What are the requirements for becoming a CASA Volunteer?
A volunteer must be at least 21 years of age. They must have an interest in child advocacy, and be able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing in order to prepare court reports and communicate with professionals. They must be willing to have a 24-month commitment, and be willing to donate 5 to 20 hours per month. Prospective Volunteers must attend an information session to receive an application. After the information session, the volunteer must submit an application with four references. Also, background checks, which include criminal, child abuse registry and a sexual offender registry, are completed. The applicant will also have to show proof of vaccination to COVID-19. The applicant will then have an interview before being accepted into the 36 hour training program. All volunteers must possess mature judgment, a high degree of responsibility, and sufficient time to service the best interest of the child. Moreover, all volunteers must be able to relate to persons of different cultures, ethnic backgrounds, and socioeconomic statuses.
